First week recap.

On Friday morning I went to my first seminar, and we had a good time. I got to talk to more of the other interns and see how their experiences are going. I'm very fortunate to have the group of students that I have, they are very well behaved and we have a small group. I know already that I will miss the kids when I leave.

When I went to the seminar the students didn't understand why I was gone. My mentor told the students that I was meeting with my teacher and that she would also have to meet with a teacher later too. The students thought that my mentor and I are the same and they don't realize that I'm an intern. My mentor said that she will keep it that way too. This will probably help with the respect if they don't know that I'm a student. :)

I can't wait to start the new week. Every day I have been doing more and more teaching and I'm loving it. The kids are getting used to both of us teaching and I don't think that they even realize the difference. My mentor and I both have similar teaching styles and I feel that we compliment each other very well.

First Full Day of School

My day started out different than I expected. I tried to cut off my thumb while using the big paper cutter to cut word wall words. Today we focused on community building and we learned how to behave properly on the bus(getting on and off) in the hallway and at lunch. The kids really enjoyed the bus and lunch parts because there were teachers pretending to be students and not doing what they should be doing and then students got to demonstrate proper procedure. Yesterday we focused on proper procedure for the assembly.

We only had 12 students show up today, not sure if it will stay that way or not. Also not sure what they will do if there isn't enough students. I did a read aloud of "Rainbow Fish" and we talked about what we can give people that isn't materialistic (compliments, high five, notes...) The kids did great.

First Day of School!

Today was my first day of school at Green Meadow Elementary (Comstock Public Schools). Today went great, this internship should be great. There were only 13 students that showed up today, a very small group. We were expecting 18, and thought that more would be added soon. I have an email address at the school and was apart of the staff picture. I feel like a teacher and I'm enjoying every moment of it. Since today was the first day, I didn't really "teach" but tomorrow I will. More will come later on in this adventure.
